The Markham Speed Skating Club welcomes people of all ages, skills, and objectives to participate in the sport of
indoor short-track speed skating for recreation, competition, and, above all, for fun.
The Club is located in Markham, Ontario, Canada, at the northeastern outskirts of Toronto.

The 2008-2009 skating season has finished. It was a good one!

Our Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday June 09 2009.

Summer dryland training started on May 05.
Every Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. at the Unionville High School track
* * and now just added, Fridays from 7:30 p.m. at the same location. * *
Rogers TV videotaped our session on June 30 and expect to broadcast
the segment on July 02 or 03 between 18:18 and 18:30 or beween18:48 and 19:00.

For summer ice opportunity in July-August, visit the Newmarket Speed Skating Club.

Summer skating camp opportunities will be available with:

  1. The Ontario Speed Skating Association on August 24-26 and 26-28 in Cambridge
  2. Sue Ellis in Ottawa on July 1 -23 for youths (dates depending on age and ability) and on August 6-9 for Masters.

Check this site later in the summer for news about the upcoming 2009-2010 season.
However, we can say the following:

  1. it will be our 20th. anniversary
  2. we will probably have our Registration and Open House on Sunday September 13
  3. we will have the same ice time as last season, i.e. Thursdays 8-9 p.m. and Fridays 7-9 p.m.
  4. we will probably start skating on Thursday September 17 and Friday September 18
  5. the first race meet will be just two weeks later on Sat-Sun October 3-4
  6. it's official: we will host our first OSSA-sanctioned ability race meet on Saturday December 05!
    LOTS OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
  7. the Olympic Winter Games on home ice and snow in Vancouver on February 12-28 2010
    and the Paralympic Winter Games on March 12-21 will bring a lot of attention to speed skating,
    not only during the Games but also before (e.g. The Globe and Mail, Monday June 22) and after,
    so expect to see a lot of interest in our Club during the whole season.
    Make sure you invite people to join us!!
  8. the Olympic Torch will stop in Markham on Thursday December 17 at the Civic Centre around midday.
    We hope to have some presence in the celebrations.
